# Are you overweight? Be fit and obese by calculating your body mass index (BMI)

The body mass index, known as BMI, is a way to calculate the body's fitness (or obesity!) Ratio. It has a simple formula that lets you know your BMI and determine your current fitness status. The BMI figure is determined by the person's height and weight.

Body Mass Index (BMI) = (Weight in kg) / (Height in meters);

Or,

Body Mass Index (BMI) = (Weight in pounds * 703) / (Height in inches);

For example, if your weight is 60 kg and your height is 1.5 meters, your BMI will be: (60) / (1.5); = 26.66. Similarly, if you want to calculate your weight in pounds, you can convert kilograms to pounds (1 kg = about 2.20 pounds), meters in inches (1 meter = 39.37 inches) and calculate your BMI . The resulting figure will obviously be the same!

So BMI represents the current state of body weight and can be compared using the following chart:

A BMI of less than 18.5 means your body is underweight.

If your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9, it means your body has a normal weight.

BMI between 25-29.9 means overweight.

And if your BMI is equal to or greater than 30, that means you're obese

So the person in the example above has a BMI of 26.66, which means he is a little overweight and needs to burn some fat.

Although there are different theories, and discussing exactly which of the eight is ideal for the body, BMI is still an effective, if not accurate, indicator of how well you are currently weight and how much fat you have. has it. Need to lose or gain, as the case may be!
