Have a bowl of healthy snacks by the door that you leave the house though. If you are always going in and out of the house, having a bowl of fruit or healthy snacks by the door that you use will make it easier to pick up something to eat on the way in or out, and you don’t have to go out of your routine, just reach for a snack as you enter or leave the house.
Have your cupboards arranged with the foods and ingredients that you will use most set in front of everything else? This obviously goes for other food storage areas too. This way, when you are cooking, you won’t have to dig through ingredients that are in the cupboard in order to get to what you want. It might sound like only a little time is spared but if you cook often, all the little amounts of time will mount up.
Have a shopping list on the fridge or somewhere convenient in the kitchen, and then write things down as you use them up, rather than sit down once a week and decide what you need to then go out and buy. This way, when it comes to the shopping, you will already have a list of things that are getting low, and you need to buy more of.
Have healthy snacks in the car (as long as they don’t melt!). Having them handy in the car, for when you are out and about means that you will be able to have a snack while waiting for children, if you do the school run, and you will save time by not having to worry about picking something up when you leave the house.
Have water bottles ready in the fridge. You can buy bottled water in multipacks, so when you get home, you can store them in the fridge. This way, when you are busy, you can just grab one straight out of the fridge, where it is ready.
If you plan your meals a week in advance rather than decide what you want to have at a moments’ notice, you will save time because you won’t be spending time trying to decide what you want to eat and chopping and changing. Also, this way, you will also save time shopping because, again, you’ll already know what you want, and you won’t be spending time trying to decide.
